Fabiana Bytyqi

Fabiana Bytyqi (born 30 December 1995) is a Czech professional boxer of Kosovan descent.[1] She has held the WBC female atomweight title since 2018.[2][3] Bytyqi is the first female boxer from the Czech Republic to win a major world title.[4] As of May 2020, she is ranked as the world's sixth best active female atomweight by BoxRec.[5]

Career

Early career

Fabiana Bytyqi started practicing karate at the age of four. Later, she moved to kickboxing, Muay Thai and finally to boxing.[2]

Professional boxing

Fabiana Bytyqi made her professional debut on 7 March 2015 at the Maritim Hotel in Magdeburg, Germany against Andrea Jenei from Hungary. Bytyqi won the fight by technical knockout.[6]

Bytyqi won her next five fights and later had the chance to compete for the WBC Youth female minimumweight title against Teodora Bacheva. Winning against the Bulgarian fighter, Bytyqi became WBC Youth female minimumweight champion in March 2015.[7]

In September 2018, Bytyqi became the first Czech female boxer to win a world title, after defeating British Denise Castle by unanimous decision for the WBC female atomweight title in a fight held at Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic, Bytyqi's hometown.[3][4][8]

After obtaining her first world title, Bytyqi made her first title defense on 6 April 2019 against Soledad Vargas in Ústí nad Labem. Before the fight, Bytyqi had an undefeated record of 14–0. Bytyqi managed to defend her crown by drawing after 10 rounds against the Mexican boxer. Both fighters stated that they are looking forward to a second fight.[9][10]

Bytyqi is trained by former Czech professional boxer Lukáš Konečný.[11]

Bytyqi's nickname is Angel Fist or Andělská pěst in Czech.[12]
