Eric Bauer
Eric "King Riff" Bauer (born 16 April 1974) is an American recording engineer, record producer, record mixer and musician based in San Francisco, California. He is best known for his work on recordings with Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, Comets on Fire, White Fence, Sic Alps, Six Organs of Admittance, Meg Baird, Howlin' Rain, Heron Oblivion, Mike Donovan and Peacers.[1][2][3] Ty Segall has described Bauer as a producer who has "a lot of ideas about sound."[4]
Bauer is the founder and owner of Bauer Mansion, a Chinatown, San Francisco-based, basement recording studio, founded in 2008.[5][6][7][8] In a 2015 interview with Tiny Mix Tapes, Meg Baird commented on her experience recording in Bauer's studio, stating "It’s not quite an official capacity studio, but sometimes people refer to it as Bauer Mansion, or just Eric Bauer’s studio."[9]
A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Bauer moved to San Francisco in 1998 during the dot-com bubble and became entrenched in the local noise music scene.[5]
Along with his studio contributions, Bauer is also responsible for having co-engineered several multi-track live recordings with longtime collaborator Bob Marshall for John Dwyer's Castle Face Records' Live In San Francisco series of recordings.[5][10]
Bauer has created and performed music as a member of Crack: We Are Rock, Big Techno Werewolves and Sic Alps.[11]
