Elsa Galafrés

Elsa Galafrés was born on May 23, 1879, in Berlin, Germany. She was a German actress, known for Durch Nacht zum Licht (1916). She was married to Clifton Stewart, Ernõ Dohnányi and Bronislaw Huberman. She died in 1977 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Biography

Galafrés, the daughter of a merchant, she trained as a piano player and on December 1, 1893 she successfully performed as a concertist in the Berlin Philharmonie . Although she received well performance, she refused to be a pianist and she decided to become an actress.

At the age of fifteen, her talent was performed at a charity stages in Havelberg , presentational acting and she played on the stage of the Urania Theater. After taking lessons with Ottilie Genée, Friedrich Haase gave her the opportunity to make her first appearance on the occasion of his guest performance in Halle . There she made her debut on December 16, 1894 as "Ellen Friborg" in Am Spieltisch des Lebens .

Her first engagement was at the Hoftheater in Berlin, where she debuted as "Perdita" in Shakespeare's winter fairy tale . In 1896 she came to the city theater in Riga (inaugural role: "Queen" in Carlos ), then she was in Hanover (role in play: "Anna-Liese") and after three years (farewell role: "Lorle") she went to Hamburg (inaugural role: "Rita“ In the talisman )

From 1910 to 1913 she married with violinist and composer Bronisław Huberman (1919-1949) & Hungarian pianist and composer Ernst von Dohnányi (1910 - 1913) & last with X-ray doctor Clifton Stewart and lived with him in English Bay near Vancouver in Canada (? - until her death). [1]
