Arlington County has 24 Elementary Schools across the county. As of 2020, the biggest Elementary School (by the number of students) is McKinley Elementary School, with a student population of 783, followed by Ashlawn Elementary School (753 students) and Abingdon Elementary School (752 students). The smallest Elementary School (by the number of students) is Charles Drew Elementary School, with a student population of 438, followed by Campbell Elementary School (442 students) and Barcroft Elementary School (452 students).[1]

History
Abingdon Elementary School is named after the old Alexander Custis Estate, Abingdon. George Washington, Parke Custis, and Nelly Custis were all born in the Abingdon House. The school opened in 1950 to help alleviate the overcrowding at the former Fairlington Elementary. Abingdon has been home to a variety of instructional programs, including Spanish Immersion. In 2002, the Spanish Immersion program was moved to Claremont Elementary School.[2] As of 2020, the number of students at Abingdon is 752.
