Edina Leković
For over 15 years, Edina Lekovic has served as a leading voice on American Muslims and an inter-community builder between diverse faith traditions. She is a co-founder and board member of NewGround: A Muslim-Jewish Partnership for Change, a board member of multifaith house of worship The Pico-Union Project and a layleader at the Islamic Center of Southern California. From 2017-2018, she was also an On Being Fellow, an opportunity she used to launch her own podcast, which was named one of the best new podcasts of 2018. In each episode of "Meeting the Moment", Edina talks with people she admires about their journey and how they have been able to find opportunities within life's big challenges. Plus, she shares stories from many of her own experiences as a public advocate for American Muslim inclusion.
Biography
Lekovic is a Montenegrin American whose parents are of Bosniak ethnicity that came from Bar, Montenegro in the former Yugoslavia.[1] She completed her graduate work in Communication at Pepperdine University and received her B.A. in American Literature & Culture. During this time, she was the Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Bruin, the third largest paper in Los Angeles. Under her leadership, the staff won a number of national awards, including the Society of Professional Journalists Best of the West in college publications. Edina lives in Los Angeles with her husband and children.

Her work has been discussed in news sources like the Wall Street Journal, Washington Times, Associated Press, Chicago Tribune, and Los Angeles Times.[2] Lekovic is also a regular speaker at national and international conferences and interfaith dialogues speaking on a variety of issues related to American Muslims.[2]

- In her work with the Muslim Public Affairs Council from 2004-2014, she advocated on behalf of American Muslims in news media, interfaith, community, and pop culture spaces. She has appeared on leading media outlets, including CNN, FOX News, Huffington Post, NPR and BuzzFeed. In 2015, she was named one of L.A.’s 10 most inspiring women gamechangers by Los Angeles Magazine. She was also named one of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world by Georgetown University and the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre in 2009. From 2000-2004, she served as Managing Editor of The Minaret, an American Muslim magazine which focused on socio-political issues impacting faith and identity for millions of Americans. In 2003, the Malaysian government invited Lekovic to be one of two U.S. representatives to the International Conference of Muslim Young Leaders, which was as a precursor to the annual conference of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC).
