History
The team that became known as Eden Studios was formerly a development group at Infogrames' European subsidiary Infogrames Multimedia that developed the first V-Rally for the PlayStation. The team later became its own studio as Eden Studios, with Infogrames holding a 19.2% minority share in the studio.
In April 2002, Infogrames fully took over Eden Studios.[1] During this period, the company continued developed racing games like Test Drive Unlimited and its sequel Test Drive Unlimited 2, as well as ventures into other game genres with Kya: Dark Lineage.
Atari announced in April 2011 they had laid off over 51 of the 80 employees working at the studios which led to employees at the studio going on strike[2]. Atari later announced in April 2012 they would try and separate from the developer due to arguments with employees at the studio and the parent company[3]. On January 29, 2013, the studio went into judicial liquidation[4].
On October 31, 2013, under the impulsion of former employees and with the financing of ID Invest and Monster Capital, Eden Games reopened as small independent game developer free from Atari. The company saw the release of its first game, GT Spirit, on Apple TV in December 2015 and has later followed on with Gear.Club and its Nintendo Switch versions Gear.Club Unlimited and Gear.Club Unlimited 2.
