Dorney Road Landfill

Dorney Road Landfill is a Superfund site in Mertztown, Pennsylvania.[1]

History

Formerly an open-pit mine, this site housed a landfill from 1952 to 1978. During that time, the disposal of toxic materials caused contamination of local groundwater. Dorney Road Landfill was added to the National Priorities List in 1984.[1]

On March 28, 2018, the EPA issued what it termed "the Final Close Out Report for the site," and announced via a September 28 press release of that same year that this final report "documented that all performance standards have been achieved and that no additional Superfund response actions, other than operation and maintenance and Five-Year Reviews, are necessary to protect human health and the environment." The EPA also announced via this same press release that it was removing the Dorney Road Landfill from the Superfund National Priorities List.[2]
