Early life and education

Danielson received a B.S. degree in solid mechanics from MIT in 1964 and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Harvard University in 1968, advised by John W. Hutchinson.

Career

Danielson joined the faculty of the University of Virginia. The group moved to the University of California, San Diego in 1979, and to the Naval Postgraduate School in 1985.[1] He studied basic structural mechanics and applications to naval hulls, as well as satellite orbits.[1] Danielson is notable for his contributions to these fields, as well as for his graduate textbook on Vectors and Tensors in Engineering and Physics.[1]

Danielson is the author of many US military technical reports, including "Buckling of Ship Grillages", (Naval Postgraduate School Technical Reports, Monterey, CA, 1996 and 1997), and "The Naval Space Command Automatic Differential Correction Process", (Proceedings of AAS/AIAA Astrodynamics Specialist Conference, Aug. 16-19, 1999).
