Discoperi Inc.

Discoperi is an automotive startup company based in Ukraine. It was founded in May 2016 and is developing a smart device for cars called System "Eye", an internet of things (IoT) device based on artificial intelligence (AI) [1] algorithms, big data, and blockchain network. It is designed as a video control system that tracks drivers and surroundings on the road and notifies drivers of unusual behavior and possible collisions.

History

The idea of System "Eye" creation came up to Alex Bondarenko when he was with his family in a taxi, when the taxi driver crossed the road on a red light.[2][3]

In May 2016, the Discoperi's R&D core team started working on the first product prototype and a few months later the first product prototype with deep-learning algorithms was delivered.

In early 2017, the company was approved as an Associate Member of Khube (KPMG Hub for Entrepreneurs). At the same time, the team developed a Fast Short Message Protocol (FSMP) to support the data transfer and exchange across the community in less than a second.

Later on, Discoperi launched the first deployment of System “Eye” in Madrid and started shooting roads to educate AI algorithms. Engaging with taxi fleet, Discoperi started collecting data required for the pilot roll-out.

EQT Ventures took Discoperi as a project and at this point System “Eye” prototype was able to recognize cars.

At the end of 2017, Discoperi decided to change the focus towards blockchain and distributed community for data protection and independence. Since then, the R&D team expanded and began its work on developing blockchain network based on Ethereum protocol.

In June 2018, Discoperi opened a new R&D office in Kiev, Ukraine. Discoperi won regional Singaporean final of Startup World Cup with a right to participate in the world's final competition in San Francisco in 2019.

In September 2018, Discoperi has presented the first prototype of System "Eye" at TechCrunch Disrupt. By the end of the year, Discoperi is planning [4] to finish System “Eye” beta version.

In November 2018, Discoperi has been approved for a grant from European Commission within its program HORIZON 2020 - SME Instrument - Phase 1.[5]

On 31 January 2019 Startupbootcamp announced that Discoperi joined its acceleration program in global startup and scale-up innovation program in Commerce (Amsterdam).[6]

In January 2019, Discoperi has been granted a place in Startup Hub: Polish Prize program as top-8 international disruptive startups invited to Poland.[7] Later the same year, Discoperi participated in Impact Connected Car (ICCAR) acceleration program funded by the European Commission and led by ISDI and FundingBox.[8][9]

In June 2019 Discoperi presented System Eye at 13th European ITS Congress.[10] The same month Discoperi won 3rd place at Startup Hub: Polish Prize Demo Day Competition.[11] Later Discoperi participated in Italian Tech Week as a part of CDILabs Matchmaking Day [12]

Discoperi supports development of innovations and startups ecosystem in Ukraine through participations in round tables and discussions with NGOs, corporates and government authorities.[13][14] Later the same year Discoperi joined Connected Mobility Hub [15]

In 2020 Discoperi became a member of MTS 5G center [16]

About City AI

City AI is a system that adds cameras a smart brain capabilities and distinguishes valuable data in a fast and efficient manner. City AI analyses data from CCTV cameras, recognises vehicles by type, brands, models, colors, plate numbers, etc., discovers road inefficiencies and potholes and provides insights in easy and clear manner.

Core features of City AI:

  • Counting number of vehicles by direction
  • Understanding behavioural patterns of vehicles
  • Detecting road surface issues (e.g. potholes)
  • Detecting stolen vehicles
  • Recognizing and tracking vehicles by color, brand and generation
  • Optimizing congestion and routing
  • Optimizing road infrastructure
  • Controlling speed and parking

City AI is a camera-agnostic tool.

About System “Eye”

The System “Eye” consists of three fundamental components: an on-board IoT device, AI[17] algorithms and a protocol that connects all devices into a single network (DNCV).

The device can be installed on the windshield of any vehicle in order to identify and parse data such as road situations, vehicles characteristics, and status, driving behavior, and transfer it to the Cloud.

Core characteristics of the device:

  • 8Mp IR camera 120 degrees front view, Full HD
  • High speed connection (100+ MB) ~250g
  • GPU with 256 cores
  • Multiple AI neural networks, operating simultaneously

To support the data transfer and exchange, Discoperi has also developed a Fast Short Message Protocol (FSMP).

Awards

Since launching the first version of its product System “Eye”, Discoperi has been recognized by several organizations.

  • Regional Startup World Cup at the World Blockchain Summit in Singapore, 2019 [18]
  • The best startup in Europe, Startup4Export, 2018 — Impact CEE’ 2018[19]
  • The Best Global Road Safety Technology Company 2018 - US Business News [20]
  • The best startup, Prize 3, 1st Batch 2019 - Startup Hub: Polish Prize [21]
  • New Mobility Infrastructure Project of the Year, Nominee, 2019 - TAAS Technology Awards [22]
gollark: I think making a less efficient Python program (with intensive mathy things done via numpy etc. which use bindings to C) makes a lot more sense than having a possibly-faster C program which takes several times longer to write, in most cases.
gollark: It's a poor performance decision (although you can just use pypy, which doesn't have that), sure.
gollark: Although all the tooling and CPUs are optimized for the C model, so good luck changing anything ever.
gollark: You could do that, but you might as well use a sane, nonC language.
gollark: Yes.
