Career

Early career

In 1993, his career started as an investment specialist in Berlin, Germany.[15]

When he was 19 years old, he quit his job in the bank.[3]

In the 1990s, after moving to Italy,[15] Ahlborn founded several companies in the alternative energy and interior design sphere.[16] Ahlborn left Europe and joined Girvan Institute of Technology, a non-profit incubator and co-working space. The Institute, located in Southern California, was created to assist NASA's Ames Research Center. Whilst working there, he started thinking about ways to apply the co-working notions elsewhere.[17]

JumpStarter, Inc

He co-founded and became CEO of Jumpstarter in 2013, the company that developed the crowdsourcing platform JumpStartFund in El Segundo, California.[18]

Hyperloop Transportation Technologies

While Ahlborn and his team were drafting what Jumpstarter would look like, Elon Musk expressed his vision for Hyperloop. Musk knew he didn't have the time nor the manpower to pursue the execution of Hyperloop. So he decided to crowdsource it through Jumpstarter.[19] In order to deal with the complex engineering challenge, Jumpstarter started pooling resources around the project, amassing an incredible 420 people core team.[20] Now, a team of more than 800 experts are developing the most advanced transportation system with the largest collaborative corporate entity on the globe to bring this future to life – at the speed of sound.[21]
