Desert Devils Gymnastics

Desert Devils Gymnastics is a privately owned gymnastics club headquartered in Mesa, Arizona. The primary business is recreational and competitive gymnastics instruction.

History

Desert Devils Gymnastics was founded in the 1970s by Mark "Stormy" Eaton. May 3, 1949 -March 15, 1995) Eaton won the 1971 NCAA Floor Exercise competition and earned a silver medal at the 1974 World Trampoline Championships.[1] After Stormy Eaton's death, management of the club was assumed by Geoff Eaton who was an elite gymnast prior to assuming the management of Desert Devils. He competed for Arizona State University contributing to that team's qualification for two NCAA Championships.[2]

Notable alumni

  • Kim Arnold: Member of the 1992 and 1993 US Senior Women's National Teams. In 1993 she won a bronze medal on vault at the National Championships. She competed for the University of Georgia. While she was at Georgia, the team won a national championship in 1998. In 1998 she also won the all-around competition, 3rd place on vault, 1st place on balance beam, and 2nd place on floor exercise at NCAA Nationals. She won the Honda Award for women's collegiate gymnastics in 1997 and 1998.[3]
  • Elisabeth Crandall: Placed eleventh in the all-around competition at the 1992 US National Gymnastics Championships and at the US Olympic Team Trials. She competed for Brigham Young University from 1992-1996.[4]
  • Carly Janiga: Placed ninth in the all-around at the US Olympic Trials in 2004. She entered Stanford University in 2006 and was a member of the Cardinal gymnastics team.[5]
  • Sandy Woolsey: Placed eighth in the all-around competition at the 1989 World Gymnastics Championships. She competed for the University of Utah from 1993-1996 earning All-American honors.[6]

Business Information

Desert Devils is operated by head coach and owner Geoff Eaton. Annual sales figures are over $1 million and there are approximately 20 employees.[7]
