Dennis Ganendra

Dato' Dr. Dennis Ganendra (born 30th December, 1965) DIMP, ASA, M.A. Hons(Cantab), MSc(Eng), DIC, Ph.D, P.Eng, FICE, FIHT,FIEM, ASEAN Eng., APEC Eng. IntPE, MACEM, MIEAust, CPEng, RPEQ, is a leading Malaysian entrepreneur and engineer, and the first Chief Executive Officer of Minconsult Sdn Bhd, an established multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy.[1]

He was appointed a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, UK, in 2018 and is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia[2] and Institution of Highways & Transportation.[3]

Ganendra is a pioneering renewable energy developer and founder of the Timeless Green Group.[4] The Group constructed solar features for the Vatican's first Green Building Certified Residence, located in Kuala Lumpur.[5]

He was Honorary Secretary General of The Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australasia (1998 – 2006) and is a Council Member. He served as a Director and Audit Committee Member of the Construction Industry Development Board, Malaysia (CIDB) and as a Trustee of the Construction Research Institute, Malaysia (2000 – 2008).[6]

In 2001, he was awarded the Darjah Kebesaran Ahli – Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (ASA) and in 2003, conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Mahkota Pahang Yang Amat Mualia – Peringkat Kedua, Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang (DIMP) which carries the title ‘Dato’.

Education

He attended Millfield College, Somerset and later Westminster College, London. He is a graduate of Trinity Hall, Cambridge University where he was awarded the Cambridge University open scholarship and Queen's Jubilee scholarship from the Institute of Civil Engineers (U.K.), and read Engineering. Notably, he was the first Malaysian to Captain the Trinity Hall, Cambridge, Rowing Team. He is married to lawyer and cultural entrepreneur, Shalini Ganendra, who is a fellow Trinity Hall graduate.

He has a Master of Science with Distinction in soil mechanics, from Imperial College, U.K. His doctorate, also from Imperial College, "Finite Element Analysis Laterally Loaded Piles" has been a continuing source of reference in the engineering field.[7]

Career

Dennis Ganendra has managed and lead local and international projects for extensive work scope including: highways, ports, airports, railways, power plants, petro-chemical plants, industrial plants, high rise buildings, water treatment plants and sewerage treatment plants. Minconsult has consequently developed as a major engineering force internationally, having secured projects from international funding agencies such as Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank (WB), Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Projects from multi-national corporations and foreign governments have covered over 25 countries in 5 continents.

He is also is one of the pioneering developers of Renewable Energy projects in Malaysia, and is the founder of the Timeless Green Group of Companies. He is a Director of Ground Data Solutions Sdn Bhd and Chairman of Lidar Services International Inc., Canada, which provide state-of-the-art Airborne Laser Survey Services. Using developing and operating high-tech Lidar and other remote sensing systems, these companies have successfully undertaken projects in Asia, Europe, Africa and North and South America.

He has published and presented papers in international journals and at international conferences, respectively on topics ranging from innovative management approaches, ethical engineering, and transformation of business models challenged by crises.[8] [9] [10] [11] [12][13] [14] [15]
