Biobarakuma Degi

Biobarakuma Wangagha Degi Eremienyo (born 1 January 1960) is Nigerian Politician,[1][2] He is the Senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District of Bayelsa State at the 9th National Assembly.[3][4] He was appointed Vice Chairman Senate committees on Gas Resources and Special Duties.

Polictical career

In the February 23, 2019 general elections, Degi was elected as the Senator representing Bayelsa East having polled 43, 303 votes to beat the PDP candidate, Ipiganai Izagara who polled 32, 363 votes.[5][6][7]

On September 10, 2019, Degi was announced as David Lyon's running mate in the November 16, 2019 Governorship Election in Bayelsa State.[8] On November 12, 2019 the Federal High Court in Abuja disqualified Him as Lyon's running mate for the Bayelsa State governorship election on the basis o falsification of academic documents.[9] The Court of Appeal in Abuja had halted the judgement disqualifying him as Lyon's running mate for allegedly filing false academic information on November 15, 2019.[10]

On 16 November 2019, in the Bayelsa State governorship elections and he was declared the deputy Governor-elect of Bayelsa State by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.[11]

On 13 February 2020, a day prior to his swearing-in as deputy governor, his election was invalidated by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on grounds that he submitted a fake certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission.[12][13]
