David Toups

Monsignor David Leon Toups is an American prelate of the Catholic Church who was appointed as Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Beaumont on June 9, 2020.[1][2]

Biography

David Toups was ordained to the priesthood on June 14, 1997.[3] Soon after he served on the diocesan Presbyteral Council from 1997 to 2001. Subsequently he served on the National Board of the National Federation of Priests’ Councils from 1997-2001. From 2000 to 2002 he served as Observer for Region IV to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ November meetings. In 2004, Toups received his Doctoral Degree in Dogmatic Theology from Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas and he served at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary as professor of Sacramental and Liturgical Theology until 2006.[4] While there he also served as the Assistant Dean of Students in 2004 and the same year was appointed Dean of Students until 2006. He also served as a member of the Administrative Council, Faculty Council and Seminary Formation Team until 2006. From 2007 to 2010 he served as the Associate Director of the Secretariat of Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. [5]Toups served as the associate pastor of St. Frances Cabrini Parish from 1997 to 2001 and was then served as pastor of Christ the King Parish from 2010 to 2012. Since 2012, Toups has served as Rector of the St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary.[5]

Bishop of Beaumont

On June 9, 2020, Pope Francis appointed Toups as bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Beaumont. He is scheduled to be consecrated on August 21, 2020[6][7]

He has chosen as his motto Romans 8:28, based on his predecessor's motto and mothers favorite quote, “For those who love God, all things work together for good.”[1]
