David M. Gersten

Background

He was born in Miami Beach, Florida. He attended the University of Florida where he earned his B.A. in 1973. He received his J.D. from the Fredric G. Levin College of Law in 1975.

He worked in private practice from 1975 until 1980. In 1980, he was elected to the Miami-Dade County Court. From 1982 through 1989, he served as a Circuit Judge on the 11th Judicial Circuit.

He was appointed by Governor Bob Martinez to the Third District Court of Appeal in 1989 and is currently in active service. From July 1, 2007 until June 30, 2009, he served a two-year term as Chief Judge of the Third District Court of Appeal

On July 5, 2011, Judge David M. Gersten will retire from the Third District Court of Appeal and enter private practice. He will join Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP.

Academic career

He serves as an Adjunct Professor at St. Thomas University School of Law, (1994–present) and faculty advisor for the St. Thomas University School of Law Mock Trial Team (2008–present).
