Danau, Brunei

Danau, officially known in Malay as Kampung Danau (sometimes Kampong Danau), is a coastal village in Tutong, a district of Brunei. It is a village subdivision under the mukim or subdistrict of Telisai.[1] The population of Danau is 1,059.[2]

Administration

Danau is primarily governed as a village subdivision, the third- and lowest-level administrative division of Brunei. It is a part of the subdivisions of Telisai, a mukim of Tutong.[1] As a village, the residents of Danau is headed by a village head (Malay: ketua kampung), and the incumbent is Abdullah bin Mohd Tahir (Acting).[3]

Danau has two postcodes areas, namely Danau and Penapar Danau, with the postcodes TC2345 and TC2545 respectively.[4]

Infrastructure

Dewan Kemasyarakatan Kampung Danau is the community centre of the village.

Danau has two public schools: Danau Primary School (Malay: Sekolah Rendah Danau), a Cluster 5 school,[5] provides general primary education to the resident pupils of Danau, where as Danau Religious School (Malay: Sekolah Ugama Danau) provides primary religious education for its Muslim pupils.[6]

There is a village mosque in Danau, namely Kampong Danau Mosque (Malay: Masjid Kampong Danau), which serves the need for its Muslim residents for communal religious prayers and activities, in particular Jumu'ah or the Friday prayers. The mosque was built in 1972 and completed in the following year.[7] Its present building can accommodate up to 200 worshippers at one time.[7]
