Newspapers (Print):

Dainik Bhaskar -

Dainik Bhaskar Newspaper

The post-colonial era in India saw a clear dominance of British-established English dailies. The readership leaned towards a certain type of conventional journalism. And it was in this milieu that we launched Dainik Bhaskar in 1958. With its heightened Indian sensibility and attention to colloquial nuances, Dainik Bhaskar quickly became a household name. Its style of journalism was accessible, sharp and had a quintessentially local flavour. Something India related and responded to. Soon, Dainik Bhaskar became a significant catalyst of national change in news reporting. With 46 editions across 11 states, readership of 5.33 crore (Source: IRS Q4, 2019, TR, M+V) and a series of editorially-altered sub-editions, Dainik Bhaskar connects with India on a vast scale.

Divya Bhaskar -

Divya Bhaskar Newspaper

The launch of Divya Bhaskar in Gujarat was a momentous step. The Group broke the language barrier with the launch of its Gujarati daily, Divya Bhaskar in 2003. A ground breaking twin contact survey program was conducted which addressed the reader's demands that had been so far shunned in this market. The need of the hour was a newspaper that catered to the choices and preferences of its readers. After surveying 12,00,000 households and comprehending their readership needs, Divya Bhaskar was launched and its very first edition ran into 4.52 lakh copies, a record-breaking debut. It is now an industry benchmark and its success story has become a case study by IIM-Ahmedabad. Today, Divya Bhaskar has 9 editions across Gujarat (Ahmedabad, Mehsana, Rajkot, Surat, Vapi, Baroda, Bhavnagar and Bhuj) and Maharashtra (Mumbai) with a readership of 85.69 lakh of readership (Source: IRS Q4, 2019, TR, M+V, U+R ; Divya Bhaskar includes Saurashtra Samchar)

Divya Marathi -

Divya Marathi Newspaper

2011 saw another foray into a regional language by the Dainik Bhaskar Group. New, independent and courageous, Dainik Divya Marathi rapidly became synonymous with the voice of Maharashtra. While the main newspaper addresses larger issues of international, national and local news, politics, business and sports, a series of specialised supplements are also published. From lifestyle articles to sting operations, from modern glamour to urban problems and local grievances - Divya City, Madhurima, DB Star and Rasik cover a vast range of topics and form an integral part of our product base. These supplements concentrate on fulfilling specific readership needs and simultaneously offer advertisers a focused reach to niche target audiences. Growing from strength to strength in Central Maharashtra, Divya Marathi has 6 editions (Aurangabad, Nashik, Jalgoan, Ahmednagar, Solapur and Akola) with a readership of 38.37 lakh readers (Source: IRS Q4, 2019, TR, M+V, U+R)

There is a huge opportunity that lies in the Tier II and Tier III cities of India, where consumption of digital media is growing at a staggering rate of 62% (Source: Google analytics, Dec'16). We tapped into this high-opportunity language news market in the digital space by developing a superlative Hindi language web platform. This delivered real time news from over 800 cities, from ground zero. The mobile category is also growing rapidly in the Tier II and Tier III cities of India. To cater to this audience, we developed mobile-friendly websites and applications for our readers and undertook unique initiatives to graduate the users to this platform. And as usual, our approach was extremely personal. An on-ground team visited the households and assisted the readers in downloading our mobile application. After they had successfully introduced households to the application, our teams walked them through a step-by-step journey into our digital platforms.

Technology at DB Corp Ltd.

When it comes to being a forerunner, we don't just restrict it to the content of the news. At the Dainik Bhaskar Group, the entire life cycle of a news event like data collation, editing and its presentation in the newspaper and other mediums and its distribution to the readers on any medium of his choice is done using the state-of-the art methodologies. We are equipped with world-class and extremely efficient technologies to ensure that the newspapers are of superlative quality.

Today, the Group has a total of 54 printing centres with high speed printing machines. These enable us to churn out the news at a massive speed.

When it comes to next-generation technology, our greatest asset is undoubtedly the German-manufactured KBA (Koenig & Bauer AG) printing machine. This mammoth 8-storey high printing configuration has fully-computerised systems to control the vital functions of printing which include, colour registration, ink water balance, speed, and so on.

KBA (Koenig & Bauer AG) printing machine

The machine allows many innovations such as flap printing, pop-ups, drop-outs, fuzzy folds like a Fan Fold, Super Panorama (8 Page wide Single sheet) double width central spread and so on. It even enhances the entire visual experience through sharper images, brighter text and almost exact colour reproduction of the original.

But most importantly, the KBA machine prints 85,000 copies per hour against the normal average yield of 30,000 copies. Drastically reducing the time it takes to print a newspaper enabling latest news coverage like the scores of very late night sports events and the latest example being the Supreme Court judgement that took place around 4 am.

The entire Newspaper Production Process is fully automated. News, Photographs, Graphics and Advertisements are all handled through a CMS called Matrix and transmitted to all centres of Bhaskar on high speed WAN across the Group in real time. We also contribute hugely to the environment by adopting green policies and initiatives like VioGreen CTP (Computer-to-Plate) Machines that produce plates without the use of hazardous chemicals and water. We have migrated all our office and printing plants to an LED lighting system, that saves almost 70% energy. Our end user computing is also on Virtualised Desktop Infrastructure which not only ensure No Data Loss and Virus Free operation but also contributes to reduced electricity consumption.

Culture at DB Corp Ltd.

At the Dainik Bhaskar Group, our core values are reflected in our work culture, every single day. We drive our values within the organization, creating an environment that enables our employees to imbibe the Group vision.

Our key focus is employee satisfaction and to achieve this we conduct Gallup survey. In fact, the Dainik Bhaskar Group is the only brand in the Indian media industry to partner with Gallup Research for employee engagement. We organise various activities to keep the fun quotient alive at work but we also have stringent policies, which protect an individual's emotional and physical well-being from any sort of harassment. We have adopted a work culture that seamlessly combines the ethics of professionalism with an attention to individual detail and satisfaction. This appeals to the better nature of all our employees, encouraging them to live up to their truest potential. We extend medical support to not just our employees, but their in-laws as well. This sets us apart since we go beyond industry norms to offer our employees wholesome benefits. Gender inequality remains a major concern in our society.

For us, socio-economic change starts from our organisation itself and hence the Group has adopted a range of unique policies that curbs this bias. Contribution from the organisation to an employee when a girl child is born and financial assistance for their daughters' weddings are to name a few of such initiatives. Through our recognition and rewards program, we make sure our employees feel valuable and recognised at an individual as well as collective level.

Social Initiatives

Ek Ped Ek Zindagi: A greener tomorrow is not a desire any more. It is the need of the hour. Trees are of invaluable importance to us and our environment. They form the base of our survival. Keeping this in mind, Dainik Bhaskar started the ‘Ek Ped Ek Zindagi’ initiative. Dainik Bhaskar Group has been running the ‘Ek Ped Ek Zindagi’ campaign for the last 7 years. This time the idea was to create a sense of urgency among people and urge them to take action right now before it's too late. In order to do so, we highlighted two hard hitting facts: Fact 1: A human breathes about 9.5 tonnes of air in a year that works out to a total of about 740 kg of oxygen per year. This is roughly, seven or eight trees worth in a year assuming one tree produces around 100 kg in a year. Fact 2: According to market survey by Delhi Greens, an average human being consumes oxygen worth approx. Rs.13 lakhs per day. We asked people – How many trees/plants they have planted till date? (Ab nahi to kab?/If not now, when?) The campaign was launched on 28th July'19 on World Nature Conservation Day and culminated on 30th Sept. The Campaign resulted into a huge success. A huge number of people participated in the campaign and total number of 13,97,478 plantation were done.

Abeer Gulaal Ke Saath Holi: Millions of gallons of water get wasted during the Indian Festival of Holi. Dainik Bhaskar Group took a step towards reducing this massive unconscious wastage of water and came up with ‘Abeer Gulaal Ke Saath Holi’ Campaign. This campaign promotes dry celebration of Holi, thereby motivating citizens to refrain from playing Holi with water and channel their festive spirit in an eco- friendly manner.

Save the Birds: During the month of scorching summer season, thousands of birds die due to lack of drinking water and grains to eat. Dainik Bhaskar's 'Save The Birds' initiative is a campaign to help these birds in distress. Dainik Bhaskar Group encouraged its readers to place Sakroras (earthen birdbaths) filled with water and grains on roof or window, to help these birds survive.

Mitti ke Ganesh: Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the major Indian festivals which is celebrated across many parts of the country on a large scale and is observed specially in the states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, Telangana, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh. During this entire festivity, the one thing which has been majorly overlooked is its impact on the environment and specifically on our water resources. The tradition of idol immersion (popularly known as Visarjan in Hindi) in local water bodies have been practised in India since ages and this problem is growing more severe year by year. Every year, a huge number of idols are immersed in the water bodies, out of which most of the idols are POP made. In Mumbai alone, around 150,000 idols are immersed annually. Dainik Bhaskar identified this problem and came up with 'Mitti Ke Ganesh, Ghar Mein Hi Visarjan'. The objective of this campaign is to encourage people to use Ganesh idols which are made up of clay (mitti in Hindi) and immerse them at home itself and use the remnant soil to plant a sapling. This way people can practice all the rituals without harming the environment and in a way can keep Ganesh's blessings with them always.

Sarthak Deepawali : Dainik Bhaskar has been celebrating “Sarthak Diwali” since 2015. The essence of this campaign is to make the festival season special for people who are not privileged. It is all about sharing happiness. The purpose of this campaign is to urge people celebrate Diwali in a unique way by sharing happiness and spreading knowledge among others who are deprived from basic amenities in life. We want to make people realize that true meaning of Diwali is to make others smile. People who are away from their own and are helping us in some way – let's make their Diwali by doing something special and making them feel acknowledged. That is the way we can celebrate “Sarthak Deepawali”.
