In the book about Sharia, Darwish writes that divorce can be granted and refused only by a man.[3] The book also discusses punishments like beheading, stoning, amputation of limbs or flogging, which Darwish says can be meted out according to Islamic law for crimes such as apostasy (leaving Islam), adultery, theft or alcohol consumption.[3]
