History
The event was established at Saint-Cloud in 2001, when it was introduced as part of a restructured program for juveniles in France and replaced the Prix de la Salamandre which was discontinued in 2000. It was given the same title as a race held annually at Longchamp from 1893 to 1910. The modern race was originally run over 1,600 furlongs but was reduced to 1,400 metres in 2015 as part of a series of changes to autumn races for two-year-olds.[2] In 2018 the race was transferred from Saint-Cloud to Longchamp.[3]
The current version of the Critérium International often features horses which ran previously in the Prix des Chênes or the Prix Thomas Bryon.[4]
