Cornelius Sim


Cornelius Sim D.D (born 16 September 1951) is the current Vicar Apostolic of Brunei,[3] and Titular Bishop of Putia in Numidia.[1] Born in Brunei, and of Chinese and Dusunic descent,[4] Sim became the country’s first locally ordained priest in 1989 after finishing his Master’s degree in theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville.[5] He worked in utilities operations of Brunei LNG from 1978 until 1985.[6] He left Brunei Shell in 1985 and departed Brunei in 1986 to pursue his master's degree on 1988.[5] After coming back from Ohio in 1988, he served as an administrator in St John's Church in Kuala Belait until his ordination as deacon on May 28, 1989.[5] In October 2004, he was appointed as the Vicar Apostolic of Brunei by Pope John Paul II. His ordination as bishop took place in 2005 at the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Bandar Seri Begawan, where he was consecrated by Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio.[7]
