Column (tree)

Column, also known as Near Pershing, is a giant sequoia located within the Giant Forest Grove of Sequoia National Park, California. Naturalists Wendell D. Flint and Michael M. Law named the tree "Column" because of its distinctly columnar appearance. It is the 15th largest giant sequoia in the world, and could be considered the 14th largest depending on how badly Ishi Giant atrophied during the Rough Fire in 2015.[1][2]

Description

Column is located 350 ft (110 m) west-southwest of General Pershing. Column features a large triangular burn scar on its north face and a pair of horn-like branches protruding upward from the crown of the tree.[1]
