Christopher D. O'Brien
Christopher D. O'Brien (1848–1922) — of St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minn. O'Brien was born in Ireland in County Galway, Ireland, December 4, 1848. A lawyer of Irish Catholic ancestry, he served as the mayor of St. Paul, Minnesota from 1883 to 1885 List of Mayors of Saint Paul, Minn. He died in St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minn., August 27, 1922.
His father, Dillon O'Brien (1817–82), novelist, was born in Tullabeg, Co. Roscommon, Ireland and educated there, he emigrated to the US, working as a teacher among Native Americans in the Wisconsin town of La Pointe, on Madeline Island before settling his family in St Paul, Minnesota in 1863 to work with Archbishop John Ireland helped establish many Irish Catholic colonies in Minnesota. Dillon O'Brien wrote The Dalys of Dalystown (1866), a novel set in Ireland. that advocates a solution to Ireland's land question based on the virtues of a Catholic upper class; and Dead Broke a novel concerned with the conflict between human values and the modern world.
