Chris Carr (musician)

Chris Carr (born 1986 in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England) is a British, Yorkshire-based musician, best known for his work as bassist for the Wakefield-based band, Blockades,[1] in 2008–2009. Carr gained a reputation for being a high-energy onstage performer, often being the most attention-grabbing part of his band's live shows. When not in a band Carr has promoted gigs, booked for bands and worked as a tour photographer.

Early work

Carr had previously played bass in King Kommunist and Skulls, as well as guitar in Bombs Below. Whilst non of these bands were successful, they played all over the North of England and Skulls garnered a large following in Rotherham.

Blockades

Carr joined as bassist in October 2008 whilst the band were still called CryGirlCry.[2] The band originally had a post grunge sound and quite an indie orientated fan base, however, Carr[3] brought along a heavier influence which sat well with drummer Danny Barnett's style of song writing which led to the band developing a harder sound.

The band played all over the UK[4] building up a following which led to them playing at such venues as Leeds Cockpit and Manchester Academy[5] with such well known bands as To The Bones, Helsinki Seven, Atomic Garden, Lauren Harris and many more established acts.

In January 2009, the band recorded their only EP with their new heavier sound at Boom Studios in Cheshire,[6] and signed to Dapsone Records.[7][8]

Carr left Blockades in July 2009, citing creative and personal reasons. The band disbanded in August 2009 after being unable to find a suitable replacement.

Promotion/booking work

Between playing in Skulls and Bombs Below, Carr ran regular gigs in Bradford at the 1 in 12 Club under the guise of Dead and Buried Promotions. The night got a regular following and hosted bands such as Broadways Not Ready, 1000 Scars, Boys With Beaks and future thrash stars Evile. Flemming Rasmussen (producer of Metallica records Master Of Puppets and ...And Justice For All) once attended one of the shows.

Carr also briefly booked shows for Leeds punks AB Negative, securing them support slots on the UK Subs 2007 UK Tour.

Photography

Carr has worked as tour photographer (under the name Cardiac Fracture Photographic)[9] for such well known acts as Wednesday 13, Electric 6 and UK Subs. Carr has been known to work at smaller gigs with local bands in West and South Yorkshire. Carr also does promo shoots for local bands,[10] which, as well as live shots for local bands, he still occasionally does.

Current status

Currently, Carr is working on a new band in Rotherham,[11] after the life affirming struggle of his move from Bradford to Doncaster in late 2009, as well as an acoustic act with ex No Av On The TV/Bombs Below drummer Andy Griggs and surviving members of Right Said Fred.
