Chaitanya is both a male and a female name. It is a popular misconception that it is a male name as there have been a few famous people who were men.

But that is not the case. Chaitanya means pure consciousness which can be attained by both men and women. It is similar to Krishna, Kiran, Teja which are unisex names.
