Centrolene scirtetes

Centrolene scirtetes, the Tandayapa giant glass frog, is a species of frog in the family Centrolenidae. It is only known from two locations on the Pacific versant of the Andes, its type locality near Tandayapa in the Pichincha Province of northern Ecuador, and from the Colombian Massif in the Nariño Department of southern Colombia.[3][4] It might be conspecific with Centrolene lynchi.[1][3]

Description

The male holotype measures about 24 mm (0.94 in) in snout–vent length and two female paratypes about 26 mm (1.0 in). The snout is rounded in lateral view. Dorsal skin is shagreen with spinules. The hands and feet are moderately webbed.[2][5]

Habitat and conservation

Its natural habitats are humid upper montane forests at elevations of about 1,780–1,820 m (5,840–5,970 ft) above sea level. It lives on vegetation by streams. Its status is insufficiently known but potential threats include climate change, habitat loss, introduced fish species, pollution from the spraying of illegal crops, and chytridiomycosis.
