Carmelita Abdurahman

Dr. Carmelita C. Abdurahman is a Filipino academic in the field of linguistics.

Biography

She was appointed by the President of the Philippines as commissioner of Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (Commission on Filipino Language)[1][2] for the Waray language of Samar-Leyte.[3][4][5][6] She is also a consultant on Filipino language to the Department of Education.[7] After her term, she was installed as president of Pambansang Samahan ng mga Tagamasid at tagapagtaguyod ng Filipino (PASATAF).[8] She is now the head of the education department of Saint Mary’s College of Catbalogan and a part-time instructor at Samar College and Samar State University handling Filipino-related subjects.

Abdurahman is the only commissioner among 11 who is in favor of code-switching in Filipino language.[9]

Personal life

She is the mother of the TV news reporter and senior news correspondent of GMA News and Public Affairs Marisol Abdurahman.[10][11]
