Canada Council for the Arts Act

The Canada Council for the Arts Act (the Act) is the establishing act of the Canada Council for the Arts, an organization established for the encouragement of the arts.

The Act appoints a council of nine members, including a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and not more than nine other Members. A Director is also appointed by the governor in council (the government) who will act as the chief executive officer.

The Act was first passed into law in 1957, by the Liberal government of Louis St. Laurent.
