Calcutta South Club

Calcutta South Club is on Woodburn Park Road beside Woodburn Park, Kolkata, India is a venue for lawn tennis. Davis cup matches used to be held here. It is behind the Bhowanipor Education Institute or College of South Kolkata. There is also a tennis training centre. The calcutta south club was established in 1920. Later it was made into a Ltd Company where the members are its shareholders. The club is known as "the cradle of the game (lawn tennis) in the country (India)" as it nurtured many talents from the Dilip Bose to Jaidip Mukherjee and Premjit Lal and Naresh Kumar and Akhtar Ali to Zeeshan Ali and Leander Paes to Syed Fazaluddin all of whom are Davis Cup Players for the Country of India.[1]

The first Grass Court National Championship of India was held at South Club in 1946 and won by the Dilip Bose.
