Bukit Peninsula

The Bukit Peninsula (Indonesian: Semenanjung Bukit) is at the southern end of the island of Bali, Indonesia. It is traditionally considered to be the entire area south of Jimbaran beach. Unlike the bulk of Bali, it features a dry, arid and stony landscape. It is administered under Kuta South District. Bukit means 'hill' in Indonesian.

Tertiary limestone ocean floors, lifted by subduction, from the Bukit Peninsula, here visible with the cliffs of Uluwatu.

The Indonesian government has encouraged the development of the area instead of more fertile land for large upmarket tourist facilities. It is a popular destination for surfers, particularly at Uluwatu.[1] The Pura Luhur Uluwatu Temple is on the peninsula.

This area has undergone large scale investment and growth during the early 2000s, partially owing to its proximity to the Ngurah Rai International Airport (the only international one in Bali) and the stunning ocean views from its cliff tops. In 2006 a new golf course (Bali's 4th) started construction. Bukit now hosts international hotels.

Notes

gollark: I still need to figure out color.
gollark: Apparently my old CC terminal rendering code was actually not too far from working, which is nice.
gollark: Oh great, I've completely forgotten all the details of how to extract bits of the HD font.
gollark: What I want to do is have a backend server *constantly* run the CC computers, and have a web frontend connect to them on demand.
gollark: Well, copy-cat runs the Lua in the browser IIRC.
