Bucherius

Aegidius Bucherius (or Bucherus) (15761665) was a French Jesuit and chronological scholar. His real name was Gilles Bouchier (or, less likely, Boucher).

Bucherius was born in Arras. His Doctrina Temporum from 1634 published for the first time some important chronological documents, in particular the Chronography of 354, and work on computation of the date of Easter (the cycle of Victorius of Aquitaine). He also published Anatolius Laodicensis and Hippolytus Romanus.[1]

Originally at Béthune, he moved to Liège, where for six years he was Rector of the College. He died in Tournai.

Works

  • Belgium Romanum ecclesiasticum et civile
  • De doctrina temporum commentarius in Victorium Aquitanum (Antwerp 1634)

Notes

  1. It appears that allegations of plagiarism from Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc were made against him. See , under 'Calendar'.
gollark: You're missing great ones like "But I'm just going to say, I'd get a put option on you if you were publicly traded".
gollark: It's a bit repetitive.
gollark: We need some sort of list of good spirit quotes.
gollark: It might be more efficient (for me (if I could actually be bothered)) to just use patreon for support, except I think they *do* take a significant cut of things and are bad for small-amount-per-month donations.
gollark: If I had money, and some need for T-shirts, and could buy them in the UK, I... might buy those (not sure where I was going with this).
