Brysson Cunningham
Dr Brysson Cunningham FRSE DSc MICE (1868-1950)[1] was a Scottish civil engineer and author specialising in harbour and dock design and operation. In the early 20th century he was generally viewed as the authority in this field.[2]
Life
Brysson Cunningham FRSE (1868-1950) was not the son of David Cunningham FRSE (1838-1896).[3]
David Cunningham FRSE (1838-1896), "He returned to Dundee in 1867 and commenced to practise on his own, account. Two years later Mr. Cunningham was appointed Engineer to the Dundee Harbour Trust, which post he held for the remainder of his life.".[4] Therefore, with Brysson Cunningham recorded as being born in 1868 in West Derby, Lancashire, England and also being married in the same District in 1897 and David Cunningham recorded in the 1891 Scottish Census as still being "Unmarried", aged 52 and living with two of his sisters in the family home of 'Viewbank' at East Newport, now known as Newport-on-Tay on the south shore of the river Tay (Scotland Census 1891 431/00 004/00 021),[5] I think it highly unlikely that they are father and son.
