Bonhooghly
Bonhooghly is a popular locality of Baranagar in North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is very close to Kolkata. The area is under the jurisdiction of Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA).[7]

Location
Bonhooghly is surrounded by Dunlop, Kamarhati and Belgharia to the north; Alambazar and Dakshineswar to the west; Baranagar Bazar and Noapara to the south; and Dum Dum and North Dum Dum to the east.
History
All the areas like Dunlop, Kolkata, Alambazar, Bonhooghly, Noapara were known to be a single region called "Baranagar" in the past. The name "Baranagar" is still in use. The word Baranagar derives from the Bengali term "Barahanagore" (City of Hogs). Streynsham Master visited the area in 1676 and spoke of the hog factory, where about 3,000 hogs were slaughtered and salted for export annually. The Dutch had a presence in the seventeenth century. Baranagar is also the name of the Municipality. It was established in 1869.

The ISI, Kolkata is situated at Bonhooghly. It is the main branch or headquarter of all ISI branches situated in many different places around India. The Kolkata (Bonhooghly) campus offers bachelor and masters level degree courses on various subjects.

The nearest rail station to Bonhooghly is Baranagar Road railway station which is in Baranagar The nearest metro station is Baranagar metro station which is under construction of Kolkata Metro Line 1 extension.
