Bluewater Bay, Eastern Cape

Bluewater Bay is a seaside suburb of Port Elizabeth, South Africa situated along the shores of Algoa Bay. Bluewater Bay is also located on the northern banks of the Swartkops River and its river mouth.

Geography

Bluewater Bay is situated on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth and is about 14 kilometers north of the city centre and 10 kilometres south of the Coega Industrial Development Zone and Port of Ngqura. It is divided into two parts by the N2 highway, Bluewater Bay to the west (interior) and Bluewater Beach to the east (coast). It is surrounded by St Georges Strand in the north, Amsterdamhoek in the west, the Indian Ocean in the east and Deal Party in the south.[3][4][5][6]

Beach

There is a beach in Bluewater Bay named the Bluewater Bay Beach in the neighbourhood of Bluewater Beach. People swim, surf, fish at this beach and in addition kitesurfing and windsurfing due to the Port Elizabeth's strong afternoon winds. Bluewater Bay also has regular dolphin sightings, walking trails and frequent whale visits during whale season.[7][8]

Facilities

Bluewater Bay is a small but developing suburb and because of its size, it has a few facilities and infrastructure.

There is a public park gym, tennis club and schools which include Bluewater Bay Primary School and Bumble Bee Educare. The only shopping centre in Bluewater Bay is the N2 City Shopping Centre which includes anchor stores such as SuperSPAR and PEP. Other supermarkets or stores in Bluewater Bay include Pick n Pay and Bay Superette.[9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]

Property

Bluewater Bay has many townhouse complexes but is mostly made up of modern single- and double-storey houses with spacious yards.

The suburb remains primarily a residential area with a few houses having been converted into B&Bs and guesthouses.[17]

Road Access

Bluewater Bay is situated east of the N2 highway and the Exit 758 off-ramp. Weinrock Way connects the suburb to the N2.

The N2 highway connects to the city of Port Elizabeth and Humansdorp to the south and Grahamstown/Makhanda and East London to the north.
