Blank Range

Blank Range is an American rock band based out of Nashville, TN.[1] The band consists of singer Jonathon Childers, drummer Matt Novotny, bassist Taylor Zachry, and guitarist/singer Grant Gustafson.[2] Rolling Stone magazine describes their sound as a “magical combination of dissonant, Pavement-esque and pavement-ready garage rock & roll with a keen grasp of how to make it all wildly melodic — thanks to super-sticky riffs, restrained psychedelia and a sense of composition that's restless, surprising and pretty fearless.”[3]

Overview

Blank Range has opened for Margo Price, Tyler Childers, Spoon, Alice in Chains, the Drive-By Truckers, and Death Cab for Cutie.[4]Blank Range played Luck Reunion and Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in 2018. Blank Range uses amped-up guitars, steel-guitar atmospherics, complex subtle percussion additions, and vocal harmonies to produce textured music with qualities of blues, Americana, ’70s nostalgia, Nashville heartbreak, and psychedelic country-rock.[3][5][6][7] Their debut album, Marooned With the Treasure, was released in 2017 and named Best Rock Album that year by the Nashville Scene.[8] Blank Range is set to release their self-released sophomore album In Unison, on February 1st, 2019. Pittsburgh City Paper calls their new single, "Change Your Look" a raucous garage pop good time which effortlessly showcases their blistering grooves, sticky-sweet melodies, and whip-smart lyricism.[9]

gollark: I decided to look at the code in more detail. This was a mistake. It contained thousands of lines with minimally useful comments, for some reason its own implementation of hash tables (this is very C, I suppose), and apparently its own implementation of WiFi mesh things even though that should really be handled generically for any device.
gollark: After I was able to work through git's terrible CLI enough to make that work, and "fixed" some merge conflicts, it somehow compiled still, but upon plugging in the thing, hung things again. I had dmesg open, and apparently it was a page fault somehow in the code assigning names or something?
gollark: Then I noticed that they had merged patches a lot from the repo for a similar wireless chip, so I decided to just try and merge the "kernel 5.10 compatibility" thing from that, which had not made it in yet.
gollark: There was a repo on GitHub for doing that with it, but `insmod`ing it after compiling *somehow* hung my kernel so I had to reboot.
gollark: I mean, possibly. I wanted to get my USB WiFi thing to work in monitor mode for testing for non-evil purposes, but it was just really bad to do so.
