History

BigCommerce was founded in 2009 by Australians Eddie Machaalani and Mitchell Harper following a chance meeting in an online chatroom in 2003.[4][5] In August 2009, the two relaunched a hosted version of Interspire Shopping Cart called “BigCommerce”[6] and opened its first U.S. office.

BigCommerce was 100% bootstrapped[7] until July 31, 2011, when it closed $15 million in Series A funding from General Catalyst Partners.[8]

In July 2020, BigCommerce filed for IPO.[9][10]

gollark: PotatOS may be stupid property *morally*, but legally it's intellectual.
gollark: So I can license it under as many crazy licenses as I want.
gollark: It's my intellectual property.
gollark: No it's not.
