History

The hospital was first established in a house off Church Street in 1814.[1][2] It moved to Quay Walls (into the building now known as the Customs House) in 1826.[1]

A purpose-built hospital, designed by John Starforth, opened in Low Greens in 1874.[2] New wards were added in 1911 and 1926.[2] The hospital joined the National Health Service in 1948 and it was extended again in the 1960s and 1970s.[2] In September 2018, the Trust proposed closing the infirmary and replacing it with a new facility at Tweedmouth.[3]

gollark: No, I mean b0nzy's.
gollark: We've actually moved your house into spatial IO, to save space.
gollark: The new orbital bee lasers should stop qez from interfering.
gollark: Did you know that there are actually three independent XTMF writer programs, and three reader ones (two for ingame use, one for playing back tapes on the desktop for some bizarre reason)?
gollark: You are *really* repetitive, qez.
