Description
The studio was established in 1978 in Chicago by R. Agass Baumgartner. His son Julian took over the running of the studio in 2011 following Agass' passing, aged 63.[2] In 2016 the conservancy started a YouTube channel - also called Baumgartner Restoration - which quickly grew in popularity.[1] On the channel Julian posts videos of himself restoring various works of art. These videos have been well received[3] and have accrued media coverage about the conservancies' various restoration projects.[4][5][6] A January 2019 Mashable named Baumgartner as the most popular art conservationist on YouTube and credited Julian with popularizing the genre of videos.[7]
Baumgartner Restoration is a member of the American Institute for Conservation.[8]
