Business career

Starting in the 1990s, Basim Shami was taken into Farouk Systems with the intention of being the next generation to take the company to the next level after his elder brother Rami Shami. Farouk Systems USA was incorporated in 1986 by launching its first line of products. These products consisted of the first ammonia-free hair color as well as the first company to use silk in hair care with BioSilk Silk Therapy developed by Farouk And Rami Shami themselves.

With Farouk Systems being his main concentration, his father Farouk Shami, Founder and Chairman, recruited Basim as the new President of the company in 2010. Shortly after this appointment, Basim served as a judge for the 2010 Miss Universe Pageant. In 2011, he was appointed CEO and President taking over full control of Farouk Systems USA. As the new CEO, Basim began to make changes within the company by restructuring internal appointments, hiring teams of experts, creating new lines and tools plus the re-packaging of existing lines.
