Bar 25

Bar 25 (often stylized as Bar25) was a techno club on the banks of the Spree River in Berlin's Friedrichshain district. During the period of its existence from 2003 to 2010, it also achieved international fame within the techno music scene.[1][2] The bar closed in September 2010 after a five-day party. The site was cleared shortly afterwards.[3]

The area in which the bar was located lies between Holzmarktstrasse and the north bank of the Spree River, not far from Ostbahnhof. The area was separated from the street by a high wooden fence. The bar itself consisted of a wooden shed in the style of an American saloon that could only be used in summer. The bar was closed during the wintertime.

The building has been expanded and rebuilt many times over the years. In later years, an upscale restaurant operated in the rear area of the bar. There was also a music stage, a fireplace, a hostel, a sauna area with a pool and private accommodation on the premises, as many employees also lived on the premises. Play equipment such as swings or a discarded bumper car gave the bar the appearance of a playground for adults.

Many of the world's most famous DJs have released their records on the club's record label.[4] Later, the label Katermukke was created when the club's successor, Kater Blau, took over. Kater Blau is still a fully active bar and nightclub today.

The playful and trusting atmosphere of the club, which was the center of life for many employees and guests, is shown in the documentary "Bar25 - Days Outside of Time", which had its premiere in German cinemas on May 3, 2012.[5][6]
