Asad Majeed Khan

Asad Majeed Khan (Urdu: اسد مجید خان) is a Pakistani diplomat who serves in BPS-22 grade as the current Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States.[1][2] Previously, he served as Pakistan's ambassador to Japan.[3][4]

Early life

Khan is married and has two children.[5]

Education

He earned his doctorate degree International Economic and Business Law (LL.D.) from Kyushu University Japan.

Career

In early days of his career (1990–93) he served as Desk Officer for US and India.

Other notable positions he held are[6]:

  • 2004- Director (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation)
  • (2004-2010) Minister-Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations[7]
  • 2005- Acted as Chief de Cabinet to the President of the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
  • 2007- Served as the Chief Coordinator for the Group of 77 during Pakistan’s Chairmanship of G-77 at the UN in New York.
  • (2010-2011)- Director General (United Nations) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad
  • (2010-2011)- Served as the elected Vice Chair of the Bureau of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development.
  • (2012-2015) Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Pakistan, Washington D.C.
  • (2013-2014) Served as Pakistan’s Charge d’ Affaires ad interim to the US[8]
  • Additional Secretary (Foreign Affairs) at the President’s Secretariat, Islamabad.
  • (2015-2016) Director General (West Asia) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • (2016-2016) Director General (Americas) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • (2017-2018) Pakistan’s Ambassador to Japan[9]
