Arya Gopi

Arya Gopi is a Malayalam poet from India. She has written five books in Malayalam and one in English. She is an established young Malayalam poet and has won numerous prestigious awards and honours including Kerala Sahithya Akademi Kanakasree Award, Kerala Government Youth Icon Award, Kerala StateYouth Welfare Board Swami Vivekananda Yuva Pratibha Award, Vyloppilli Award, ONV International Yuva Award , Kakkad Award, VT Kumaran Master Award, etc. Arya lives with husband Joby Joseph and son Jahan Joby.

Biography

Born to noted Malayalam poet P K Gopi and Komalam in 1986, Arya Gopi has published five books in two languages – Malakha Matsyam (Stories, 2003), Jeevante Vaakkukal (Poems, 2006), Sob of Strings (English Poems, 2011), Avasanathe Manushyan (Poems, 2014), Pakalanival (Poems, 2016), Ochezhuthu (2020).

A regular face at literary events in Kerala, she recites poems at various programmes conducted by organisation such as Kendra/Kerala Sahitya Akademy[1], Mathrubhumi[2], Manorama[3], D C Books[4] and Hindu dailies apart from various web and visual media. Her poems are available on different anthologies. She also publishes and presents on various literary topics.

She is a regular contributor to Malayalam and English periodicals. A first rank holder in MA English language and literature from University of Calicut, Arya is now an assistant professor in English at Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College, Kozhikode. Short story writer Soorya Gopi is her younger sister. She completed her PhD – Other India – A Socio Literary Analysis of Select Works of Mark Tully[5].

An ardent fan of boom and post boom Latin American literature, she has also completed a UGC-sponsored minor research project on Latin American literature. A noted academician in English literature, she writes/presents various research papers on literature and other related topics at various national and international events.
