Apeejay School, Pitampura is a higher–secondary school located in Pitampura, New Delhi, India. It was founded in 1990 and is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). It is owned and run by the Apeejay Education Society which has 14 schools and 13 institutes of higher learning across India, as well as the Apeejay Stya University in Gurgaon. Apeejay School, Pitampura has been ranked as 2nd best school in North Delhi in 2019 as per a survey by The Times of India's Times School Survey 2019.[1]

History

The beginning of Apeejay School, Pitampura dates back to May 1990, when the first admission was done for classes Nursery, K.G. and I. The school started in tents from 23 July 1990. The first principal was R.S.Chauhan. Dr. Dilip Kumar Bedi joined the school as principal in July 1992 and heads the school till present. He received the national award by the President of India Prathiba Patil on Teacher's Day of India on 5 September 2007.

Location and Building

Apeejay Pitampura is located on Road No. 42 in Sainik Vihar (Pitampura), New Delhi. Pitampura is the nearest metro station on Delhi Metro's Red Line.

The school building was built on a four-acre plot allotted by the Delhi Development Authority. In 1990–91, a temporary structure with five classrooms and an activity room were ready. Suraj Sabharwal, the architect, designed the buildings, and construction started in 1992. The main building consisting of the basement, ground, first, second and third floors was completed by 1994 and all the classes were shifted to the new building on 18 July 1994.

The school has a 2-acre play-field with football nets, 2 cricket nets and pitch, a volleyball court, 2 basketball courts and a tennis court.

Affiliation

The school had obtained the "Essentiality Certificate" from Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) in October 1991. The school got the recognition for classes Nursery to VIII on 22 September 1994 from the DoE. The school was granted the affiliation for class X on 23 September 1996 and the first batch of Class X appeared in All India Secondary School Examination conducted by the CBSE in March 1997.

India – Australia Bridge Project, 2008

Sarita Sehgal participated in the Indo-Australian Teacher Exchange Program. It began on 24 May 2008 and ended on 6 June 2008. In the two weeks cultural exchange program, 12 teachers were shortlisted from different schools and paired with Australian teachers from background like government schools, independent school and language schools.

National Championship by Tata Power's Energy Quiz,2013

The School team including Lakshya Jha,Kushagra Juneja and Hardik Nagrani won the National Championship organised by Tata Power Club Enerji in the month of December, 2012 and qualified the city level (Delhi) quiz competition. The team was the best among 200 schools from all over the country. They were presented with a trophy, gift hamper and gift voucher of Rs. 3000/- each.

14th Student Leaders Convention (SLC), Singapore

Six students accompanied by Praveen Kumari went to Hwa Chong Institution, Singapore, to participate in the 14th SLC Programme from 26 May to 1 June 2008. The Student Leaders Convention (SLC) is an annual conference hosted and organized by Hwa Chong Institution High School Students' Council.

JENESYS Programme

The school is associated with the Japan Foundation and JENESYS Program which is organized by JICE.

In 2009 Vidur Katyal of Class IX and Japanese language teacher Shivani Verma went to Japan through this program, the visit included Tokyo, Hokkaido and Nigata. In 2010 two students - Kartikey Gupta of Class X and Tribhi Kathuria of Class IX went to Japan through the same program and visited Yamagata and Tokyo.
