Anwar Gargash
Anwar Mohammed Gargash, (Arabic: أنور محمد قرقاش) (born 28 March 1959 in Dubai) is an Emirati politician who is the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.[1][2]

Education
Gargash received a bachelor's degree in 1981 and a master's degree in 1984 in political science from George Washington University. He then obtained a PhD from King's College of Cambridge University in 1990.[3][4]
Career
Gargash started his career as a faculty member at United Arab Emirates University where he served from 1985 to 1995.
From 1995 to 1999, he worked as Managing Editor of the Strategic Studies publication by the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR), and from 1995 to 2006 as Chief Executive Officer of Gargash Enterprise.
From August 2006 to February 2007, Gargash then served as Chairman of the National Election Committee.[3]
He was appointed Minister of State for the Federal National Council in 2006.[5]
In February 2008, he was named Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.[6]
Awards
In 2017, Gargash received the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award from George Washington University.[7] He also received Abu Dhabi Awards for his services in 2017.[8]
Memberships
From 1994 to 1997, Gargash served as a member of the UAE's Culture and Science Symposium, and as a member of the board of directors of Emirati daily Al Ittihad from 1997 to 1999.
He also served as member of the Board of Directors of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) from 1997 to 2000 and from 2000 to 2006, he was the Chairman of the DCCI's Economic Affair and Commercial Activities Committee and a member of the DCCI's Executive Bureau.From 1999 to 2007 Gargash also served as a member of the Emirates Media Board of Directors.[3]
Gargash serves on the Board of Trustees of the Dubai School of Government and has served on the Board of Trustees of the Al Owais Cultural Foundation since 1995. He currently serves as the foundations Chairman.[9][10][11]
He has also served as a member of the Dubai Economic Council since 2003, on the Board of Trustees of the Emirates National Development Programme since 2005 and as a member of the Ministerial Legislative Committee since 2006. Since 2007, Gargash has served as deputy Chairman of the Permanent National Committee for Demographic Structure and as Chairman of the UAE's National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.[12]
Since 2007, he also serves as Chairman of the Permanent Committee for Monitoring UAE's Image Abroad and since 2008, as a member of the National Curriculum Development Committee.[3]
Personal life
Gargash is a member of the Gargash family, one of the prominent trading families in Dubai. The Gargash family is part of the minority Huwala in the United Arab Emirates.[13][14]
