Annina Ruest

Annina Ruest (also spelled Annina Rüst) is a Swiss artist-inventor and associate professor at the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College at Florida Atlantic University.[7][8] She is known for her work in new media art including software art and electronics-based art. Her works often focus on political issues within tech culture, including gender representation and online privacy.

Biography

Ruest attended Zurich University of the Arts, graduating with a Diploma in Visual Communications with New Media Emphasis in 2003. She received a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts from University of California, San Diego in 2006 and a Master of Science in Media Arts and Sciences from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2008.[6] In 2009 she joined the Department of Transmedia at Syracuse University where she was a tenured Associate Professor.[9] In 2017 she left Syracuse University to join the Wilkes Honors College at Florida Atlantic University.[10]

Selected works

Ruest began working as a software artist while attending Zurich University of the Arts, independently and as a member of the software art collective LAN.[11][12] Her more recent work has integrated electronics including eRiceCooker[13] and Discotrope: The Secret Life of Solar Cells,[14] a collaboration with Amy Alexander. Her works often focus on the role of gender in tech culture, including Be Counted,[15] A Piece of the Pie Chart.,[12][16][17] and Bad Mother / Good Mother.[18][19]

gollark: Turns out nodejs packages *really* love compiling C(++) dependencies from source. So now `npm` is doing that, on my *phone* CPU.
gollark: The backend bit is only 50 lines, so I could probably rewrite it in a cool language like Rust eventually.
gollark: I am beginning to regret using NodeJS for this project, after trying to install it on my phone.
gollark: Except my phone, sadly I don't have one which can run ArchLinuxARM. *Yet*.
gollark: I'm in the fortunate position of not needing any Windows applications, so I just run (arch btw) Linux on all my devices!
