Plot

Gagani is a teenage girl who is the only child in her family. She is a stubborn child who was brought up by her mother alone when her father Mr.Wirckramasinghe was abroad. Her mother Janaki is also a teacher. Gagani goes to a school in the town where all teachers and students complain about the mischievous things done by her. Meanwhile, Miss Nadee who is in charge of sports activities of the school, receives a transfer to a village (Monaragala). Gagani's mother decides to request for a transfer to a school in a village because she believes that the environment in the village would surely change Gagani's behaviour. Gagani refuses to leave her town-school so she is boarded in the hostel. She gets more and more stubborn there while making other hostellers adopt her mischievous behaviour. She annoys Miss Jenny the hostel warden and the hostel chef Gunawathi but she feels pity for Simon who is a servant with impaired speech in the hostel.

Gagani dislikes the hostel life as there are so much rules that put limits to her freedom. Meanwhile, the Principal receives so much complaints about Gagani so he requests her parents to take her to a village-school. In the village she meets Miss Nadee again. She gets friendly with her peers there and the adults get fond of her. The village environment changes Gagani completely into a good decent girl. The film concludes that the environment is a crucial factor that can change one's life and character.
