Anam Najam

Anam Najam (Urdu: انعم نجم) is a Pakistani medical doctor and psychiatrist from the Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan. She is Pakistan's first and only quadriplegic psychiatrist.[1] She is awarded Chevening Scholarship for higher studies in UK.

Early life and education

Dr Anam Najam was born to a Muslim Family in Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir. She passed her intermediate from Shaheen Model College, Muzaffarabad and got a distinction in AJK Board. After completing her MBBS from Ayub Medical College, Abbotabad, she did her Post-graduation in psychiatry from College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. Currently, she is working as a psychiatrist in Combined Military Hospital, Muzaffarabad.[1] In 2019, she was awarded Chevening Scholarship and currently she is studying Masters of Science in "War & Psychiatry" at King's College London.

Incident

On March 15, 2008, Najam was traveling to Muzaffarabad from Rawalpindi with her family. During midnight, a group of armed robbers fired at their car to stop them and one of the bullets penetrated Dr. Anam’s neck which led to a spinal cord injury that paralyzed her full body from below the neck. She went to Cologne, Germany in October, 2010[2] for stem cell therapy but this treatment didn't give her any relief and incident left her near-paralyzed, affecting all the four limbs, a condition is known as quadriplegia.
