Amanda Adkins (politician)

Amanda L. Adkins (born 1974/1975)[2] is an American politician and businesswoman who served as the Chair of the Kansas Republican Party from 2009 to 2013.[3] She is the Republican nominee for Kansas's 3rd congressional district in the 2020 elections.[4][5][6][7][8][9]

Education

Adkins earned a Bachelor of Science degree in human biology and anthropology from the University of Kansas in 1998.[10]

Career

After graduating from the University of Kansas, Adkins served as a legislative aide in the United States Senate for two years and as a staffer on the United States House Committee on Rules. She later worked as the legislative director for Rep. David Dreier.[11] Adkins then worked as the director of GOPAC, a Republican political action committee and 527 training organization.[12]

Prior to announcing her candidacy for Congress, Adkins worked as the VP of Strategic Growth at Cerner, a healthcare company. Adkins took a leave of absence from Cerner starting in January 2020.[13][14] Adkins had previously served as the Chair of the Kansas Children's Cabinet under Governor Sam Brownback.[15]

In the August 4, 2020 Republican primary for Kansas's 3rd congressional district, Adkins placed first in a field of five candidates. She will face incumbent Democrat Sharice Davids in the November general election.[16][17]

Personal life

Adkins and her husband, Jason, have two children. They live in Overland Park, Kansas.[18][19]
