Alyce Spotted Bear

Alyce Spotted Bear (December 17, 1945 August 13, 2013) was an American educator and politician.

Born in Elbowoods on the Fort Berthold Reservation of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation, North Dakota, Spotted Bear received her bachelor's degree from Dickinson State University, Dickinson, North Dakota, her masters from Pennsylvania State University, and studied for her doctorate at Cornell University. Spotted Bear served as chairman of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Tribe 1982–1987. She was vice president and instructor at the Fort Berthold Community College. In 2010, President Barack Obama appointed Spotted Bear to the National Advisory Committee on Indian Education. She died in Bismarck, North Dakota of cancer.[1][2]
