Alvin (given name)

Alvin is an English, Swedish, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Polish, Slovene, and Sorbian male given name.

Etymology

Alvin was introduced in the Middle Ages based on surnames which were in turn derived from the Old English names Æthelwine, Ælfwine and Ealdwine. The names mean "noble friend", "friend of the elves", and "old friend" respectively.

The corresponding German name is Alwin, which continues the Old High German names Albwin and Adalwin.

gollark: It only works because zstandard happens to somehow store said compressed length.
