Alma Jadallah

Alma Abdul-Hadi Jadallah, Ph.D., is a social scientist, internationally recognized mediator, facilitator and trainer, as well as a scholar-practitioner and educator with close to twenty years of experience in the field of conflict analysis and resolution, research and applied practice, peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and transformation.[1] Since 2005, she has been the President and Managing Director of Kommon Denominator Inc, an award- winning woman owned private consulting firm. In that capacity, she has provided technical advice and expertise on strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening global, international, national and local capacities in conflict prevention and mitigation strategies. Global work experience includes field and research experiences in crisis and post-conflict settings, conducting conflict assessments, and research studies in complex settings and countries facing humanitarian crisis. Recent research agenda includes politicized and organized violence (PVE and CVE), a gendered approach on the potential role of women in the Arab world in war and peace, and the role of UN Special Envoys in Yemen. Alma has also designed interventions on issues pertaining to identity-based conflicts, state and non-state actors, gendered approaches to peace and security, violent responses to conflict, security sector reform, and the social dynamics of conflict.

Career

As the Founder, President and Managing Director: Kommon Denominator, Inc., Alma Abdul-Hadi Jadallah, Ph.D., manages the day-to-day management and business development of a woman owned business enterprise serving clients on the national, international and global level on issues pertaining to social change, peacebuilding and conflict transformation; Design, and facilitate dialogue processes (Track I and Track II), and collaborative interactive problem-solving workshops related to ethnic, interfaith, and racial conflicts on the national and international levels; Provide coaching services to parties in formal and informal negotiations; Work with a broad range of corporations, and civil society actors to shape strategy and to build strategic programmatic initiatives leveraging best practice research in the field of conflict resolution, multi-stakeholder analysis, and interest-based negotiations; Training several hundred participants on the national and international levels (US federal employees, government officials, judges, lawyers, civil society, grass root leaders, youth, graduate students, professionals, religious leaders and military chaplains, and business leaders) in the theory and practice of conflict resolution theory and skills (conducting assessments, process design and intervention strategies such as dialogue, facilitation, mediation, problem solving, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).[2]

In terms of women's empowerment and gender mainstreaming, she has led mission critical initiatives addressing women's empowerment and gender mainstreaming strategies on the national and international levels. Efforts include multi stakeholder interventions on women's leadership development, coaching, mentoring, monitoring and evaluation, diversity and inclusion strategies; Led and implemented diversity strategies pertaining to gender mainstreaming and the promotion of women's leadership in the workplace to include: Consultative and coaching on system wide approaches to assess organizational readiness, and process adaptation to promote women's leadership in organizational and community settings; Implemented effective gender focused leadership assessment and executive coaching strategies for women leaders; Developed evaluative measures and conducted survey and report analysis on gender related issues; Shaped, designed and led numerous dialogue projects/programs and strategic planning sessions related to women's empowerment. Sample projects include multi-stakeholder meetings pertaining to women's financial education, political empowerment, and leadership development with sensitivity to socio-political as well as cultural context; Co-directed corporate-wide re-definition of leadership behaviors resulting in significant change to performance evaluation and leadership criteria; Educator at lead academic institutions and published on women's empowerment and equality, particularly as it pertains to negotiation processes in protracted conflicts, and third party roles; Designed culturally sensitive approaches with consideration to the transfer, adaptation and translation of North American and Western models in non-Western context; Public speaking engagements to civil society women leaders hosted by lead academic institutions such as American University, Women and Politics Institute, Meridian Corporation, Harvard University, Rutgers University, and George Mason University; Board leadership of women advocacy organizations working on peace and conflict resolution efforts: Partners for Peace, George Mason University Women's Center, 3 D Security Initiatives, Karamah: Muslim Women for Human Rights.

Alma Abdul-Hadi Jadallah, Ph.D. is also a Part-time Faculty School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, George Mason University[3] and Part-time faculty Eastern Mennonite University, and Southern Methodist University[4]
